JEDDAH – Ali Uthman Al-Najim, founder/acting Chairman of Saudi Green Building Council (SGBC), has called for increased public awareness about the “Green Building Industry” and its pivotal role in securing a sustainable future. Speaking at a workshop held recently at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Al-Najim, in his presentation titled “Green Buildings Policies and International Certification System”, also urged the protection of natural areas such as farms, shores, valleys during construction of new buildings, and implementation of energy-saving measures, aside from developing grey water for some limited uses. A Green building is the outcome of energy efficient, resource efficient and environmentally responsible building which incorporates planning, design, construction and operational practices that significantly reduce or eliminate its negative impact on the environment and its occupants, while promoting the occupational health and productivity. Green building when considering social and economic factors will lead to sustainable living, he added. Meanwhile, the third annual Conference of Saudi Green Building Forum (SGB Forum), King Abdullah's initiative, kicked off Saturday, where a high number of Saudi professionals attended the LEED master class which was a part of the annual conference. The forum has a green mission of advocating the Green Building related to ‘3P's of sustainability to promote Green Building initiatives in Saudi Arabia, to boost business collaboration, unveil new employment opportunities and enhance the built-environment across the Kingdom. – SG
