JEDDAH — Head Over Heels in Saudi Arabia, a play by Maisah Sobaihi, will be held at Effat University on Oct. 9 and 17 in English. The women-only event will also include performances in Arabic that are scheduled for October 11, 14 and 16. Head Over Heels is a fun, lighthearted play that touches on a variation of topics concerning Saudi Arabia. This performance addresses many of the questions raised about Saudi Arabia with specific reference to Saudi women. The play is a one-woman show in which the narrator begins by telling her story before moving on to the stories of other people. The performer portrays other characters and shows the reflections of these characters on various topics. One character wants to get married and is tired of waiting. She has been single for the last seven years and therefore speaks to the audience in a very funny, lighthearted way expressing why she no longer believes in all the romantic theories and is now taking a practical approach to marriage. Another woman has just realized through word of mouth that her husband has just taken another wife and therefore the fun and humor is intensified when she decides to confront her husband. Head over Heels in Saudi Arabia is both informative and entertaining and will provide a live portrait of Saudi Arabia never before depicted. — SG
