BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Orioles jumped back into a tie for the lead with the New York Yankees in the American League East Division after taking down the Boston Red Sox 4-3 Saturday as the Yankees stumbled 3-2 to Toronto. With the regular season just four games away from completion, the Orioles joined the Yankees on a 91-67 record thanks to a Manny Machado home run in the seventh, his blast over left field breaking a 3-3 deadlock. Earlier, the Orioles had jumped out to a 3-0 lead through four innings thanks in part to Chris Davis's 30th home run of the season but Boston tied things up after six before Machado proved the hero. The Yankees had plenty of chances to stay ahead in the divisional race but could not put enough runs on the board. New York scored two in the first inning but failed to post another run all night as the Blue Jays notched up runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings. “Tomorrow is going to be a must-win,” Yankee Nick Swisher said. “We put ourselves in this situation and destiny in our own hands.” The loser of the divisional race still has a good chance of a wildcard berth but is not yet guaranteed a place in the post-season. Two wildcard sides will fight out in a one-game playoff with the winner joining the division champion in the post-season. Tigers 6, Twins 4: Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run homer to move into at least a tie for the lead in all three triple crown categories and Justin Verlander struck out eight in seven innings to help the Detroit Tigers stay in front in the AL Central with a 6-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Cabrera's blast in the eighth inning off Casey Fien was his 43rd home run for the year, moving him into a tie with Texas star Josh Hamilton for the AL lead. He also leads the AL in batting average (.327) and RBIs (136) as he looks to become the first player since 1967 to lead the league in all three categories. Rays 10, White Sox 4: Matt Moore pitched one-hit ball into the sixth, Matt Joyce homered twice and the Rays stayed three games behind in the chase for the second AL wild card by beating the sliding White Sox. Tampa Bay, with nine wins in 10 games, remained three games out of the second wild card behind Oakland, which beat Seattle 7-4 Saturday. Athletics 7, Mariners 4, 10 innings: Josh Donaldson hit a tying two-run home run in the ninth inning and Brandon Moss hit a game-ending three-run homer in the 10th, and the Athletics gained ground on the first-place Texas Rangers with a stunning win over the Mariners. The Angels were due to play the Rangers on Saturday but rain ensured the game was postponed, forcing the teams into a Sunday double-header. In another game, Kansas City Royals downed Cleveland Indians 7-6. — Agencies
