Internet service will soon be provided to prisoners throughout the Kingdom. It will enable them to share their problems with the National Committee Caring for Prisoners. Major General Ali Al-Harithy, director general of prisons, said the objective behind the service was to enable inmates to contact prison authorities about any difficulties they experience, Al-Hayat reported. Mansour Abu Rayash, a member of the committee, said, “Special rooms will be set up in all prisons with computers and Internet service that would allow them to connect with the outside world, their families, the committee and prison authorities.” He said this service was a platform for prisoners to comment or complain directly to the committee or prison authorities. Psychologists and social workers will follow up on their complaints and try to solve them. Abu-Rayash said the committee is working on a number of services for inmates such as the loan program. Released prisoners would be given SR5,000 to help them start small businesses and lead honorable lives. The project will be administered in coordination with the Makkah Mayoralty, the Ministry of Social Affairs, and the Prisons Administration.
