AL-JOUF — Haytham Al-Rawi, a 20-year-old disabled Saudi, returned from Jordan without his 2008 Nissan vehicle and without completing his rehabilitation program. Al-Rawi has been paralyzed from the waist down following a car accident. “After many endeavors, he was transferred to King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh, but his condition did not improve. We had to look for treatment outside the Kingdom despite extremely high costs. I took him to a hospital in Amman, Jordan, where we rented a furnished apartment in a safe neighborhood," his father said. “Soon afterward, a gang broke into his car and escaped with it. The Saudi Embassy and the security authorities were notified, and with the help of a surveillance camera at the apartment complex, the culprits were identified, but the car had disappeared. Haytham had to return to the Kingdom in a taxi and in a very difficult state," said the distraught father. There have been numerous reports about thefts of cars belonging to Saudis and other Gulf nationals in Jordan lately. Mohammad Al-Khateeb, spokesman for Jordanian police, said the authorities were taking the reports seriously. The Kingdom's Ambassador in Amman, Hamad Al-Hajri, said the embassy had taken up with the Jordanian authorities the recurring instances of attacks against Saudi nationals visiting the country. — SG
