Hussain Hazzazy Saudi Gazzette JEDDAH — More than 1,000 students in Jeddah spent a fifth day in school Wednesday without electricity despite teachers constantly complaining to the power company about the breakdowns. Many schools in the city have had to function without computers, air-conditioning and other equipment because of the outages. Schools in the Kingdom reopened on Saturday after the summer break. Parents also complained that their children have had to deal with high temperatures in the classroom. They said garbage has been piling up for several months near school premises because the municipality has not intervened. The principal of an east Jeddah school said she was stunned when a piece of the ceiling fell on her desk. She said similar incidents have happened in the school's corridors. The directorate of education in Jeddah said a joint team from the municipality and the power company had been working around the clock to resolve the matter.
