JEDDAH — Ahmed Al-Jeezawi, the Egyptian lawyer who was accused of smuggling narcotics into the country, and his Saudi and Egyptian accomplices are scheduled to appear before a three-judge panel at the General Court in Jeddah on Wednesday. The panel headed by Judge Bassam Al-Junadi are expected to indict the three defendants. The Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution charged Al-Jeezawi with smuggling of 21,380 Xanx tablets, a controlled narcotic, with the help of his Saudi and Egyptian accomplices. Al-Jeezawi claimed that he was suffering from a stomach ache but the prison authorities referred him to the clinic where doctors decided he was fit to stand trial. He also quarreled with fellow prisoners in a perceived attempt to delay the court hearing. Prison guards had to intervene to restore order in the dormitory after the quarrel broke out. — SG
