RIYADH — The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Dr. Abdullateef Al-Zayyani, has been invited to by the Peruvian president to the 3rd South American-Arab (ASPA) Summit. Peru is hosting the summit in the capital Lima on October 1-2. The invitation was handed to Dr. Al-Zayyani by the Ambassador of Peru to Saudi Arabia Eduardo Martinetti during a meeting with Al-Zayyani in his office on Tuesday. During the visit, aspects of potential cooperation between the GCC countries and Peru as well as the latest developments in political and economical arenas in the world were discussed. ASPA is a forum for policy coordination among 34 countries, 12 South Americans and 22 Arab countries, with the support of both the League of Arab States (LAS) and the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR). The 3rd ASPA CEO summit will also be held parallel to the event, and businessmen from GCC states are expected to attend. In early July, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, Ambassador Jose Beraun, came on a two-day official visit to Riyadh. The visit was the start of a tour in the region, which took him to Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, and Egypt. During the tour, he extended invitations to the leaders of these countries to attend ASPA. During his visit to the Kingdom, Vice Minister Beraun thanked the Saudi government and the Saudi people for helping his country to establish an embassy in Riyadh. Peru was the latest country to do so.
