JEDDAH — A number of government-run universities have taken the initiative to provide medical insurance for all their employees. The decision is important as it comes after a decision by the Ministry of Health to postpone the implementation of the project for medical insurance for civil servants by five years due to feasibility issues. King Abdulaziz University was one of the first institutions to take the step of providing health cover for their teaching and administrative staff, according to Al-Watan newspaper. It is believed that 50 percent of the cost will be covered from the university's endowment. The universities will deduct the monthly premium automatically from their employees' salaries. — SG
