Abed Khazindar Al-Riyadh newspaper SAUDIS rarely spend the Eid holidays in the Kingdom. There are citizens who are forced to stay in the country because they do not have the financial means to travel abroad but many of these citizens take out loans just so they can travel abroad. Taking out a loan to fund a vacation may sound like an unwise decision but can we really blame them? There are not enough places to visit in the Kingdom and even the so-called tourist attractions we have lack proper infrastructure and/or development. According to a recent report, it was expected that 500,000 citizens would leave the kingdom for the Eid holidays. The number would have been greater if it was not for the security situation in Lebanon and Egypt. Therefore, the majority went to Dubai, a city that is the perfect destination for Saudi families who can afford it. Everyone, including businessmen, shoppers, women and children, can find what they want in Dubai. Had it been developed properly, Jeddah could have been similar to Dubai or even better due to its location. Were it not for the corruption that was discovered after the Jeddah floods, Jeddah could have been a modern city that attracts tourists from all over the world. Corruption has prevented the development of the city and its infrastructure. The situation will not be corrected until corruption is completely destroyed.
