RIYADH – Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah, Minister of Education, has approved new regulations for the transfer of male and female teachers to any city of their choice under special circumstances. The approval came after teachers complained of being sent to remote villages, often far from their native cities, to teach at government schools. Saad Aal Fehaid, undersecretary for school affairs at the Ministry of Education, said a royal decree was issued to help teachers overcome difficult situations. The transfer regulations are: l If a female teacher is divorced or is the victim of physical abuse, she may apply for a transfer to a location of her choice. l Any female or male teacher who is the sole child of a divorced or widowed mother is eligible for a transfer. l Any female or male teacher who is the sole child of parents who suffer from a medical condition that prevents them from taking care of themselves is eligible for a transfer. l If either of the parents of a male or female teacher develops a chronic medical condition and the parent does not have any sons above the age of 18, a teacher may apply for a transfer. l If the father of a male or female teacher dies and the mother does not have sons above the age of 18, a teacher may apply for a transfer.
