KANSAS CITY, Kansas — Sporting Kansas City won the US Open Cup Wednesday, beating Seattle in a penalty shootout to prevent the Sounders becoming the first team to win four straight titles. Kansas City won the shootout 3-2 after the teams finished overtime 1-1. Sporting converted three of five attempts. Eddie Johnson's shot over the bar on Seattle's last attempt sealed Kansas City first Cup title since the then-Wizards won it in 2004. Kei Kamara opened the scoring for Kansas City with a penalty in the 84th minute after Zach Scott was called for handball. Scott redeemed himself in the 86th by equalizing with a header from Mauro Rosales' free kick. — AP
