Madina police are on the look out for the parents of an Arab infant who was brought to a hospital brain dead. The couple brought the girl child to Gynecology, Maternity and Children's Hospital and disappeared, according to eyewitness accounts. Medical examination showed that the infant had suffered severe brain injuries. The hospital referred the file to the Social Protection Committee, considering it as a child abuse case. The committee informed the police, which opened an investigation. Information received by Okaz showed that the parents had beaten the infant on earlier occasions also. Once the infant was taken to Uhud Hospital with fracture in her right leg. The parents informed the doctor that the infant had fallen from the bed. On another occasion, the infant was admitted to the King Fahd Hospital with fracture in the left leg. This is the third time the infant was brought to a hospital with injuries. This is not the first time a child abuse case has come to light in Saudi Arabia. After numerous family violence complaints were filed with the National Human Rights Association (NHRA), Saudi Arabia took the first steps to create special courts to handle such cases. A joint committee of the Ministry of Justice and NHRA under the chairmanship of Justice Minister Abdullah Aal-Al-Sheikh looks into family violence cases. King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, issued directives in May 2006 to establish family courts. Earlier this year the father and stepmother of 10-year-old girl Ghsoon, who died last April from wounds suffered during tortures by her parents, were executed. “Today is the last chapter of Ghsoon's sad story after the justice took its course,” these were the few words heard from the mother of the abused child. “I will never forget my innocent daughter but I feel better now after I got the call from the police department saying that the execution took place,” said Ghsoon's mother. – Okaz/SG __
