LONDON — A top British university is allowing male students to wear skirts and stockings while sitting their exams. Oxford University has changed the laws about its strict academic dress code following concerns the regulations could be unfair for transgender students, and the alterations mean female pupils are permitted to wear suits and bow ties during exams if they wish. The new laws have come about after the university's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer society (LGBTQ Soc) had a motion passed by the student union. Jess Pumphrey, LGBTQ Soc's executive officer, told The Oxford Student newspaper: ‘'In future there will be no need for transgender students to cross-dress to avoid being confronted by invigilators or disciplined during their exam.''
