HAMPTON COURT, England – Kristin Armstrong of the United States won her second straight Olympic time trial gold medal Wednesday, beating silver medalist Judith Arndt of Germany by more than 15 seconds.
Armstrong covered the 29-km course south of London in 37 minutes, 34.82 seconds. Arndt finished in 37:50.29, while Olga Zabelinskaya of Russia posted a time of 37:57.35 to add another bronze medal to the one she captured in Sunday's road race.
The 38-year-old Armstrong briefly retired after her triumph in Beijing to start a family, but she hopped back on her bike after delivering her son Lucas in 2010.
Wiggins overtakes Redgrave
Bradley Wiggins took a step towards being named Britain's greatest ever Olympian Wednesday after overtaking former rower Steve Redgrave's tally of six medals following his men's time trial win.
With five golds and one bronze medal, Redgrave is widely considered Britain's greatest ever Olympian.
However, he could soon lose that accolade to Wiggins after his fellow Englishman added a fourth career Olympic gold – and seventh Games medal in all – to his recent and historic victory in the Tour de France.
Before his time trial triumph Wiggins held a total of six Olympic medals and six world titles – all from the track.
Wiggins captured his fourth Olympic gold medal by beating world champion Tony Martin of Germany by 42 seconds, while British teammate Chris Froome took the bronze.
Kim wins 25M pistol
Shooter Kim Jang-mi of South Korea followed up her Olympic record in qualifying with another strong performance in the final to win the gold medal in the women's 25-meter pistol at the London Games.
Kim finished on 792.4 points, beating defending champion Chen Ying of China by one point, and falling one point short of the Olympic finals record, which Chen set four years ago in Beijing.
Olena Kostevych of Ukraine won her second bronze medal after placing third in the 10M air pistol Sunday. — Agencies
