Fatimah Muhammad Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — The Ministry of Higher Education has launched a new electronic service to help Saudis wishing to study abroad at their own expense to get permission from the ministry before they leave the Kingdom. Such permissions became mandatory starting Sunday. Nasir Al-Fawzan, Deputy Minister of Higher Education for Scholarship Affairs, said the decision was aimed at ensuring that Saudi students get distinguished education services abroad. The online service, he added, will make sure that all documents needed for registration at foreign universities are in order. It also helps students get approval from universities accredited by the ministry. “No regional bureaus are allowed to facilitate students hoping to continue their education on their own in foreign countries, and all applications must be channeled through the Ministry of Education as of July 29,” the ministry said in a directive.
