DAMMAM – Sadara Chemical Co., a joint venture between Saudi Arabian Oil Co. and Dow Chemical Co., said Monday it appointed Abdulrahman Al-Wuhaib as its new chairman. Al-Wuhaib, senior vice president of Aramco's Operations Services, succeeds Abdullatif Al Othman who was appointed in May as the governor of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, it said in a statement. Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical plan to build one of the world's largest chemicals plants in the Eastern Province. The firms signed last year a joint venture shareholders' agreement to build the complex in Jubail. First production units are expected to come on line in the second half of 2015, while all units are expected to be up and running in 2016. Sadara project represents Aramco's second major investment in a large-scale petrochemical complex in Kingdom, where it is already involved in JV with Sumitomo Chemical in Rabigh. – SG/Agencies
