Toyota goes sporty with all new 86
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 28 - 07 - 2012

Aerodynamic exterior defines Toyota 86 as a true sports car that can be enjoyed every day.Abdul Latif Jameel Company (ALJ), sole distributor of Toyota Motor Corporation brands in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, launched on Jeddah Corniche recently Toyota 86, the Japanese car manufacturer's new masterpiece.
"This is the first Toyota sports car to be launched in a very long time and to make an appropriately impressive comeback Toyota has geared the 86 to be the first choice for today's drivers who want an eye catching car with a powerhouse performance," said Adel Ezzat, Marketing Director at ALJ. "With its sleek exterior and ultra smart styling details, the highly desirable Toyota 86 is a true sports car that can be enjoyed every day, whether for a fun time spin with friends or a leisure time family outing."
Toyota's all new sports car, the most compact four-seater sports car available, combines the impressive pull of its 200 DIN hp 2.0 litre Boxer Engine with a rear wheel drive and a kerb weight of just 1,240kg. The result is a hugely engaging drive: a vehicle that can be driven as an extension of the driver's body.
The Toyota 86 makes the most of a light kerb weight, making it easy for the driver to exploit its nimble handling. Both the powertrain and the driver's seat have been set as low and as far back as possible, for a near-perfect front-to-rear weight balance and an ultra-low centre of gravity. The suspension features MacPherson struts at the front and double wishbones at the rear, with ventilated disc brakes fore and aft.
The taut, aerodynamic exterior design says so much from a distance, but it's up close that the full character of the Toyota 86 comes to the fore. Special 17" alloy wheels, while the rear spoiler, high-intensity discharge headlamps and dual exhausts enhance an already powerful presence.
Inside, sports seats deliver the perfect driving position. The simple, bold instrument cluster encircles a large tachometer. And styling details include carbon-effect trim, aviation-style rocker switches and lightweight aluminum pedals. – SG
