NORTH SOUND, Antigua – Veteran Chris Gayle blasted a boundary-studded unbeaten 51 as West Indies reached 72-0 in reply to New Zealand's 351 all out at tea on day two of the first cricket Test at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. The left-hander, in his first Test since December 2010, cracked 10 fours off 40 balls in just over an hour. Fellow left-hander Kieran Powell compiled an assured, unbeaten 21 to help the hosts launch a positive reply. Both batsmen had a slice of luck; Powell, on 11, edging just out of the reach of Martin Guptill at second slip off debutant Neil Wagner, and Gayle badly dropped at point by Daniel Flynn off Doug Bracewell when on 36. Earlier, offspinner Sunil Narine claimed 5-132 as the Black Caps stretched their overnight total from 232-4 to 351. Narine, who led the hosts with three wickets on day one, claimed the wicket of nightwatchman Wagner in the day's third over and wrapped up his first five-wicket haul when he claimed Kruger van Wyk, caught at short leg, in the second session. Rampaul ended with 2-44 and fellow pacer Kemar Roach took 2-55. — AP
