LONDON — The London Olympic Stadium has been shortlisted for a prestigious British architecture award. The 80,000-seat stadium will compete with five other new buildings for the Royal Institute of British Architects' 20,000 pound (US$31,240) Stirling Prize. The institute praised the building's “simple and elegant detailing," its sustainable design, and the way it provides “a surprisingly intimate relationship with the events" for spectators. The other shortlisted buildings include the Sainsbury Laboratory in Cambridge, a cancer care center in Glasgow, Scotland, and the Lyric Theater in Belfast, Northern Ireland. — AP
