Ajman unveils AED1.4 billion infrastructure projects in '08

A recent report revealed that there are six mega projects under construction in Ajman with a total value of AED40.8 billion, which accounts for over 10 percent of the current projects being developed throughout the country, Great Properties Vice President Mohammed Al-Zarah said on Tuesday.
Additionally, projects in Dubai and Abu Dhabi accounted for 50 percent and 30 percent of the UAE's total construction activities, respectively.
“Ajman is claiming a prominent position on the UAE's architectural map following the ongoing infrastructure development projects in the emirate,” he said.
“Ajman's buoyant real estate market has a great potential.”
The emirate's real estate development market is ranked third largest in the country after Dubai, which has the lion's share and Abu Dhabi” Al-Zarah added.
Speaking of the infrastructure projects currently under development in Ajman and which encourage investment in the emirate, Al-Zarah said “a solid infrastructure is being implemented in Ajman with a total investment of about AED1.4 billion in a bid to attract world-class real estate developers. This figure includes AED500 million allocated by the emirate for infrastructure, as well as AED800 million that was allocated for the recently launched sewerage system, which is one of the most important infrastructure projects in the emirate.”
To further support and ensure an adequate infrastructure to cope with the tremendous residential projects being undertaken in the emirate, a new coal-driven power plant is to be completed within three years. The agreement to build the first ever coal-driven power plant in the UAE was singed on July 17 between Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al- Nuaimi, member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman and Ernest Nevaratnam, head of Investment and Projects at Malaysian Mining Corporation (MMC) Malaysia.
The project will cost over $2 billion and marks a pioneering step forward for development in the UAE.
