With regard to the article “Expatriates and the Arabic language" (July 11), I am an expatriate who has been trying to learn Arabic. My experience with Arabic speaking professionals is that when someone attempts to speak with them in broken Arabic, they switch the conversation to English. There is a lack of policy and facilities encouraging the use of Arabic - it would be good to have Arabic speaking schools for non-Arabs.
