Saudi Arabia on Monday backed an Arab League initiative for a political settlement to the Darfur problem. Chairing the weekly Council of Ministers' session, HRH Crown Prince Sultan, who recently met with Ali Othman Muhammad Taha, Sudanese Vice President and special envoy of the Sudanese President, said that an important agreement on giving the political initiative priority has resulted from last week's meeting between Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa and Sudanese President Omar Hasan Al-Bashir. The Cabinet noted the importance of the Bashir-Moussa statement, especially the demand for the Security Council to cease the procedures being taken under UN Security Council Resolution 1593, in view of the efforts of the Arab League, the African Union and Sudanese government to address, contain and solve the Darfur problem. As per Resolution 1593, the situation prevailing in Darfur since July 1, 2002 was recently referred to the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The Cabinet also called for Palestinian national reconciliation through constructive dialogue so as not to give an opportunity to those aiming to undermine Palestinian unity, said Jubarah Bin Eid Al-Seraissiri, Minister of Transportation and Acting Minister of Culture and Information. In this regard, the Cabinet reminded the feuding Hamas and Fatah parties of their previous agreements, including the Makkah Accord. The Cabinet statement also condemned the ceaseless attacks by Israeli occupation forces on Palestinian cities and towns. The Cabinet called on the international community to put an end to the Israeli siege on some Palestinian regions and to thwart its plans to construct new settlements in the occupied lands. On national affairs, the Cabinet approved an amendment of Article 66 of the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropics Law. Also approved was the formation of a Committee for the Settlement of Insurance Disputes, which will have a three
