On Twitter and other social media websites, the Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) faced its share of criticism. Hashtags were created about the accident and the overwhelming majority said that the SRO is an as old and rusty as the trains. Many users demanded an investigation be opened over the accident. “There was not criminal motive behind the accident. When the train was asked about the accident, it said that it tried to commit suicide because of bad treatment," read one sarcastic tweet. Another Twitter user suggested that the trains be left the way they are and the site of the accident should be turned into a tourism spot. Users demanded that the SRO answer the public's questions including whether the derailed train would be fixed and returned to service and why there was no first aid kit available on board.
