Chambers wins but fails to qualify
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 10 - 06 - 2012

Dwain Chambers of Britain again failed to make the Olympic qualifying time, despite winning the 100 meters event at the Memorial Primo Nebiolo here.
Chambers was more than a tenth of a second off the required time of 10.18 seconds, winning in 10.29.
Suwaibou Sanneh was second, 0.1 seconds behind, with Gerard Kobeane third in 10.57.
Chambers has struggled to get back to his best after serving a two-year doping ban. He was a bronze medalist at the 1999 world championships with a time of 9.97.
Chambers' best time of the season remains the 10.28 when finishing behind Usain Bolt on May 25, and the pressure is building on the 34-year-old Brit.
Meanwhile, Emanuele Abate broke his own Italian record in the 110-meter hurdles. Abate was third in a time of 13.28. He had set a record time of 13.32 at the Montreuil meeting in France last month.
Abate was beaten by Sergey Shubenkov and Darien Garfield in Turin but is confident he can do better at the European Championships at the end of the month.
“It was a general test ahead of the European Championships and I got to see where my rivals are at,” Abate said.
“Today they were ahead of me but they're not invincible. I haven't had my perfect race yet, I'm happy but I can still improve.”
Russian star Ivan Ukhov won the high jump, going successfully over 2.25 meters, while former European indoor champion Simona La Mantia won the triple jump with a leap of 14.29 meters.
Cuba's Yuneisy Santiusty, who won last year, easily took victory again in the 800, nearly two seconds ahead of Marta Milani with a time of 2:00.93.
