Hungarian discus thrower Robert Fazekas, who missed out on a gold medal in Athens due to a doping violation, has met the qualifying standard for Beijing and will compete in the Games. Fazekas, who returned to competition in 2007 after a two-year ban, threw 64.56 meters late on Tuesday in Ljubljana, just ahead of the 64.50 needed for a spot on the team. The Hungarian Athletics Association and the Hungarian Olympics Committee said they had no objection to Fazekas competing in Beijing. “Fazekas qualified legitimately and we will enter him,” Marton Gyulai, secretary general of the association, said. Fazekas finished first in Athens but did not provide a sufficient urine sample and was disqualified.
