Incidents of runaway maids have been on the rise for the past few years and most-affected by the problem are the citizens who pay large amounts of money to recruitment agencies to bring them to the country. For a middle class Saudi family that has to contend with the rising cost of living, bills and Saher violations, having to replace a runaway maid is an expense they cannot afford. Maids can easily earn SR2000 by working illegally in households and this is the main reason why they run away. Some maids have become so emboldened that they want an assistant! What I want to know is why the responsible authorities are not serious about capturing and punishing runaway maids?
What is the solution, dear Labor Minister? Citizens want recruitment offices to guarantee and protect their rights. We should search for a permanent solution with the countries we are recruiting from.
Citizens should pay the recruitment company an insurance amount so in case a maid runs away, the citizen will be reimbursed.
