The Los Angeles Angels's new reliever Ernesto Frieri rescued the team from late-inning danger to preserve a tense 3-2 triumph over the American League-leading Texas Rangers Saturday. Frieri, acquired in a trade with San Diego last month, came on in the eighth inning to wiggle out of a jam and maintain the one-run lead, then got through a rocky ninth to close out the victory. Texas loaded the bases in the final inning, thanks to an error by Angels infielder Erick Aybar but Frieri struck out Josh Hamilton to end the game and hand the Rangers (31-22) their fourth straight loss. A pitcher's duel between Japanese sensation Yu Darvish and former Ranger-turned-Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson waged into the sixth inning, where the home team finally scored the game's first run on an error. Texas tied the score in the top of the seventh before Alberto Callaspo delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the inning for Los Angeles with the addition of another run enough to see off Darvish. Mariners 10, ChiSox 8: Ichiro Suzuki homered twice, John Jaso hit a tiebreaking double in the 12th inning and the Seattle Mariners ended Chicago's nine-game winning streak by beating the White Sox 10-8. Jesus Montero led off the 10th with a double against Addison Reed (0-1). One out later, Jaso drove in pinch-runner Munenori Kawasaki. Chone Figgins followed with an RBI single. Tom Wilhelmsen (2-1) pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit, for the victory. Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 4: At Toronto, Felix Doubront won for the fifth time in six starts, Nick Punto homered and Boston beat the Blue Jays. Tigers 4, Yankees 3: At Detroit, Miguel Cabrera hit two prodigious homers and Omir Santos' sacrifice fly in the ninth inning gave the Detroit Tigers a wild victory over the New York Yankees. Athletics 9, Royals 3: At Kansas City, the struggling Athletics took advantage of some bumbling Kansas City defense to pile up their most offense in more than three weeks, helping them snap a nine-game losing streak with a victory over the Royals. Orioles 2, Rays 1: At St. Petersburg, Florida, Brian Matusz gave up two hits in 7 1-3 innings and the Orioles ended a six-game losing streak by holding off the Rays. Twins 7, Indians 4: At Cleveland, Joe Mauer broke out of a slump with three hits and three RBIs, including a two-run homer, to lead Minnesota over the Indians.
