Lito Santos and Mike Montanier clinched their fourth victory at the expense of Leo Taris and Amir Tan at the LBC 10-ball Billiards Doubles Tournament in Batha here recently. Santos and Montanier recorded a 4-0 win-loss card. The duo were the first team to advance in the winners' bracket and also gained a seat in the semifinals assuring them second or third place in the contest. The winners opened the first two racks with a win (2-0), but Amir Tan fired back pocketing the 10th ball from an open shot, 1-2. The fourth match showed equal billiards talents between the teams until Santos of the winning side was gifted an easy shot for the win, 3-1. Leo Taris and Amir Tan regained their composure and responded with two straight wins to level the score at 3-3 going into the seventh rack. Lito Santos realized the situation and pulled off a win in the seventh rack to grab the lead at 4-3. Both teams exchanged equal fires in the eight rack but the winners eventually went for the kill, with Santos pocketing the 10th ball via a long shot ending the match at 5-3. The team standings: Santos-Montanier, 4-0; Victor-Rolano, 3-0; Constantino-Ortega, 2-0; Taris-Tan, 3-1; Legaspi-Guaili, 2-1; Cunanan-Malibago, 2-1; Solicar-Casimero, 2-1; Meras-Santos, 1-1; Cebu-Usman, 1-1. Games were played via 10 balls doubles format under international rules, combination of Class C and D players in a race-to-five matches. The first team that wins the first five matches seals a game. Winners automatically proceed to the winners' bracket while a loser moves to the losers' bracket. A team that loses twice is automatically eliminated. The event was organized by the Filipino Expatriates Billiards Association in Riyadh (FEBAR), an association led by officers Pelaez Marzan, Fernan Hernandez and Yolando Villacarlos. The main sponsor was LBC Express Inc. “Hari ng Padala”, air and sea cargo handlers, supported by its Country Manager, Arnold Cereno, and officers, Allan Michael Bautista and Veronica Rey.
