The chief of Jeddah's traffic directorate has denied plans to review Saher's heavy fines slapped on violators of road rules. Brig. Muhammad Al-Qahtani, director of Jeddah Traffic Department, said no section has been created anywhere in the country to look into the possibility of reducing the fines imposed under the Saher system. Brig. Al-Qahtani made the remarks while inaugurating a traffic police office in north Jeddah Tuesday. He pointed out that there are minimum and maximum fines for all traffic violations and the system is applied throughout the Kingdom. He said the new office will work in morning and evening shifts and on Thursdays to enable the public to finish their transactions with ease. It is the latest in the 13 offices that were opened in the city to reduce the pressure on the main office. The new office will provide services such as renewal of driving license, vehicle registration, ownership transfer, and reporting loss of number plates and driving licenses. The office has the facility to hold vision tests. Col. Sulaiman Bin Muawwad, director for licenses at the Jeddah Traffic Department, said at least 954 people visited the new office Tuesday seeking various services. He pointed out that 65,828 traffic documents, including new licenses, renewals and replacement cards, were issued in the city in the past one month alone.
