Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, Monday signed two contracts worth SR1.9 billion to construct new roads, bridges and tunnels in Makkah. The contracts, part of the King Abdullah Construction Project for Makkah, were signed with Saudi Binladen Group which has been given 36 months to complete the projects. The first contract focuses on the remaining parts of the second ring road while the second covers the third phase of the third ring road in the holy city. For the second ring road project, Al-Nakasa Bridge in Al-Kakiya District will be extended while new bridges will be erected at Al-Tandabawee and Al-Biban districts. The total cost of the project is SR460 million. Compensation for about 1038 acquired properties will reach SR8 billion. For the third ring road project, bridges and tunnels will be constructed in different areas including Al-Jamarat Square located between Prince Majed Street and King Fahd Road. Al-Haj Street will be extended from both sides. The total cost of implementing this project is SR1.5 billion while compensation for 830 acquired properties is set at SR3.2 billion. Prince Khaled said all projects in the 10-year plan for developing the region announced four years ago were on track. He wished all the best for those involved in the development of the Makkah region and hoped that they would complete their projects on time. __
