An official of the Education Deparment, Abdul Aziz Othman Al-Turki, was shot in the leg by a former disgruntled teacher following a dispute. Eastern Province police spokesman, Jiad Al-Riquaiti, stated that Hafr Al-Batin police had received information on the incident, and immediately arrived at the scene. The offender was arrested and the weapon used in the crime was recovered. The injured director was transferred to King Khalid Public Hospital where he underwent surgery to remove a bullet lodged in his thigh. Al-Riquaiti added that the offender is being interrogated to determine the motive of the crime. Zabin Al-Shamri, director of education for Hafr Al-Batin, recalled, “Our colleague, Abdul Aziz Othman Al-Turki, was shot Saturday in front of the department oratory, and some employees of the department rushed to find the offender standing before them with his weapon drawn and the director of supervision lying on the ground bleeding. Then the offender escaped and the victim was transferred to King Khalid Public Hospital by his colleagues.” Al-Shamri added, “The offender is a former teacher who submitted his resignation this year.” The assistant director of education, Ayed Al-Rehaily, later paid a visit to the hospital to check on the victim's condition.
