The Jamie Oliver Food Foundation launches its first-ever Food Revolution Day this Saturday to inspire, educate, and empower people everywhere to stand up for real food. A number of global events will bring together an international community of foodies, chefs, parents, educators, companies, activists and celebrities to arm people with the knowledge and tools to make healthier food choices. In Jeddah, Rayan Karkadan and Obai Al-Bashir, both health coaches and co-founders of Mizan Health Group, decided to put Jeddah on the map by creating their own event as part of Food Revolution Day. The event will take place in Muse Restaurant with chef Badr Fayez and trainer Rawan Zahran. Attendees will listen to four educational talks about healthy lifestyles and the importance of eating healthy. “This is the first year where this day is being celebrated in around 60 countries. By joining this initiative we are trying to change people's bad habits. The word ‘revolution' is strong enough to show people how serious this initiative is. In 2007, obesity was 36 percent in Saudi Arabia, which is considerably high. The study is usually released every five years so by the end of this year we will have the results and I expect the number to be around 40 percent,” said Karkadan. “We are expecting 100 to 150 people to attend plus there are six families who will be holding meetings with their relatives and friends to talk about Food Revolution Day and healthy lifestyles,” added Karkadan. People can visit http://www.foodrevolutionday.com to find and create local food events, sign up to host a dinner party and request to bring food education to their school or workplace. __
