Rays rally late to beat Yankees
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 11 - 05 - 2012

run homer in the ninth inning to complete the Rays late rally and a 4-1 win over the New York Yankees Wednesday.
New York's fill-in closer David Robertson (0-1) had escaped a bases-loaded jam the previous night in his first save chance since taking over as closer. But Wednesday, New York got a chilling dose of real-life reality without injured star closer Mariano Rivera.
With the Yankees clinging to a 1-0 lead, Sean Rodriguez singled on Robertson's first pitch and went to third when Brandon Allen singled on the next delivery.
Ben Zobrist walked and, one out later, B.J. Upton hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score. Joyce then put the Rays ahead.
Tampa Bay's Fernando Rodney (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings for the win.
Blue Jays 5, Athletics 2: In Oakland, Adam Lind hit a two-run homer after being demoted from the cleanup spot before the game, as Toronto powered past Oakland.
J.P. Arencibia homered leading off the seventh and Edwin Encarnacion started the eighth with his 10th homer, ending an 0-for-21 funk and helping Toronto snap a three-game skid.
Blue Jays starter Brandon Morrow (4-1) struck out a season-high 10 in six innings and won his fourth straight start, outpitching Tyson Ross (1-3) in a matchup of former college teammates.
White Sox 8, Indians 1: In Cleveland, Jake Peavy coasted for six innings, steering Chicago past Cleveland and to a split of the four-game series. Peavy (4-1) struck out five and had little difficulty with the Indians, who didn't get a runner past second until he gave up his sole run in the the seventh. He has been overpowering in his last five starts, posting a 1.36 ERA.
Adam Dunn connected for his 10th homer, a two-run shot, in the first inning off Jeanmar Gomez (2-2) and the White Sox added six runs in the fourth off Cleveland's starter, who was tagged for eight runs.
Angels 6, Twins 2: In Minneapolis, Ervin Santana pitched 7 1-3 innings and got some run support for the first time in his past six starts, recording a win against Minnesota.
Santana (1-6) gave up two runs and Albert Pujols had two hits and two RBIs for the Angels.
Twins starter Carl Pavano (2-3) was knocked out of the game before there was an out in the fifth inning. He gave up five runs in his shortest outing of the season.
Mariners 2, Tigers 1: John Jaso lined a single over Detroit's drawn-in infield in the eighth inning to drive in Michael Saunders with the tiebreaking run and Jason Vargas pitched eight strong innings for the Mariners.
Jaso's single off reliever Duane Below was hit so hard shortstop Jhonny Peralta barely had time to react before it was landing in the outfield grass and Saunders was jogging home with the go-ahead run. Saunders had led off the eighth inning with a pinch-hit double down the left-field line.
In another game Kansas City beat Boston 4-3.
