Saudi Gazette Traditional black abayas have now given way to colorful designer abayas. Many fashion designers in the past have played around with fabrics, patterns and embellishments to make the modest black cloak look appealing. Hana Saman is also one such fashion designer. Saman recently launched her latest 2012 Abaya collection at Lo Spazio, a female-only boutique. Her collection of abayas showcased six different lines, each had a new twist to the traditional abaya. “I don't only design for Saudi women, I design for the entire Gulf region. Hence, it is only natural for me to experiment and create a distinct look,” said Saman. Saman's show-stopper collection was her Bisht (a loose male cloak popular in the middle east) line, which she had beautifully converted into a smart fitting abaya. “I love the Bisht line,” said one of Saman's fans, who stood there admiring the fashion designer's remarkable collection. Saman's next prominent line to gain the limelight was the Khaleeji line, which Saman had designed on Princess Fahda's request. Princess Fahda had met some fashion designers at a charity event, where she had asked them to design abayas with a touch of modernity and a dash of Middle Eastern tradition. Saman's Khaleeji line was successful in creating that perfect balance of traditional yet modern abayas. “Our culture is so rich, especially when it comes to fashion and design, and I've tried to stay true to this heritage in every way possible.” said Saman. Saman holds a fashion designing degree from Italy. “I wanted to know everything about materials, cuts, lengths and everything that feeds the imagination.” __
