The Cleveland Indians handed Japanese standout Yu Darvish his first Major League loss as they jumped on the Texas Rangers pitcher for three runs in the third inning on the way to a 4-2 victory Sunday. Ubaldo Jimenez pitched seven scoreless innings for the American League Central Division leading Indians. Darvish, whom the Rangers signed to a six-year deal worth almost $60 million, won his first four starts in the big leagues, but he lasted only six innings against the Indians. Asdrubal Cabrera doubled home two runs, then scored on an infield single to give Cleveland a commanding lead in the third. Jason Kipnis made it 4-0 with a fifth-inning home run, also off Darvish, who struck out 11 but gave up six hits. Texas, the West Division leader, scored twice in the eighth on Josh Hamilton's ground out to first and Michael Young's run scoring single. LA Angels 4, Toronto 3: Albert Pujols ended the long wait for his first home run with the Los Angeles Angels Sunday but after crossing home plate the nine-time All Star had no one in the dugout to celebrate with. Pujols, a three-time National League MVP, signed a 10-year deal worth $240 million with the Angels in December and his sublime hitting prowess was expected to help the team become post-season contenders. However, the 32-year-old Dominican has struggled to live up to his reputation as Major League Baseball's most feared hitter and had gone 28 games without smashing a homer. Orioles 9, Red Sox 6, 17 innings: In the first major league game since 1925 in which both teams put a position player on the mound, Baltimore designated hitter Chris Davis overcame an awful day at the plate by pitching two scoreless innings and getting the win as the Orioles outlasted Boston. Davis went 0 for 8, striking out five times and grounding into a double play. But in a season full of surprises for the Orioles, a first baseman by trade delivered the biggest one yet in a crazy game at Fenway Park. Yankees 10, Royals 4: Robinson Cano hit his eighth career grand slam, Alex Rodriguez added a three-run shot and New York tagged Kansas City starter Luke Hochevar. Nick Swisher added a homer in his return to the starting lineup from a hamstring injury, helping the Yankees earn a four-game split. Phil Hughes (2-4) went a season-high 6 2/3 innings for the win. Tigers 3, White Sox 1: Prince Fielder homered and Rick Porcello pitched impressively into the seventh inning to lead Detroit over Chicago. Athletics 9, Rays 5: Brandon Inge hit his first homer for Oakland and drove in four runs as the Athletics roughed up Tampa Bay rookie Matt Moore. Mariners 5, Twins 2: Rookie slugger Jesus Montero lined a two-run double in the first inning and Mike Carp added his first homer of the season to lead Seattle past slumping Minnesota.
