Kanepi to meet Navarro for Estoril Open crown
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 05 - 05 - 2012

Carla Suarez Navarro will meet Kaia Kanepi in the final of the WTA Estoril Open after they both won semifinals Friday.
Estonian sixth seed Kanepi used her power game to fight past top seed Roberta Vinci 6-2, 7-5, while clay-court specialist Suarez Navarro proved too much for Italy's Karin Knapp as she waltzed through 6-4, 6-0.
Kanepi's match with Vinci looked to be heading for a third set when she fell 3-5 down in the second set but she then won four games in a row to seal the victory.
On the men's side, top-seeded Juan del Potro continued his impressive form with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over seventh-seeded Albert Montanes to reach the semifinals.
Del Potro, who hadn't played a competitive match for five weeks before traveling to Portugal, is 25-6 this year as he prepares for the French Open.
The 12th-ranked Argentine, who won the US Open in 2009, collected his first title of the season in February when he won the Open 13 in Marseille, France.
Del Potro will play third-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka Saturday for a place in Sunday's final. The Swiss player, making his debut at Estoril, beat sixth-seeded Robin Haase of the Netherlands 6-1, 6-4.
Second-seeded Richard Gasquet reached his first semifinal of the season with a 7-6 (1), 6-2 win over Spanish qualifier Daniel Munoz de la Nava.
The Frenchman will take on fourth-seeded Albert Ramos after the Spaniard overcame Portugal's Joao Sousa 6-2, 6-3.
Haas into semifinal
In Munich, German veteran Tommy Haas beat eighth-seeded Marcos Baghdatis 6-1, 7-6 (3) to reach the last four of the BMW Open Friday, his first ATP semifinal since August 2009.
Haas, the 2000 finalist who received a wild card into the clay-court tournament, served his sixth ace to end the match. He will next face third-seeded Marin Cilic of Croatia, who beat 2010 champion Mikhail Youzhny of Russia 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3.
Second-seeded Fernando Lopez of Spain served 14 aces to cruise past fifth-seeded Bernard Tomic of Australia 6-4, 6-2 and set up a semifinal against Philipp Kohlschreiber.
The fourth-seeded German defeated another Australian, qualifier Marinko Matosevic, 6-0, 7-6 (5).
Errani-Vesnina final
In Hungary, top-seeded Sara Errani of Italy will meet unseeded Elena Vesnina of Russia in the Budapest Grand Prix final after straight-sets victories Friday.
Errani beat Anna Tatishvili of Georgia 6-2, 6-1 for her 14th successive win on clay, and Vesnina eliminated fifth-seeded Marina Erakovic of New Zealand 6-2, 6-4 in the other semifinal at Romai Tennis Academy. Errani reached her eighth career WTA final. She has won four finals.
Andujar, Seppi thru
In Serbia, top-seeded Pablo Andujar of Spain, Andreas Seppi of Italy and David Nalbandian of Argentina reached the semifinals of the Serbia Open tournament Friday.
France's Benoit Paire also advanced to the last four after beating third-seeded Jarkko Nieminen from Finland 0-6, 6-, 7-5.
Nieminen was playing his second match of the day, having beaten Croatian qualifier Antonio Veic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, in a second-round match that was postponed Thursday at 5-3 because of rain.
Andujar defeated Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-3, and will face Paire Saturday.
Second-seeded Seppi beat eighth-seeded Gilles Muller from Luxembourg 6-4, 6-3. Seppi will face Nalbandian, who easily defeated unseeded Joao Souza 6-3, 6-2 in just 72 minutes.
