Marian Gaborik scored with 5:19 left in the third over-time Wednesday to lift the New York Rangers to a 2-1 victory over Washington in game three of their NHL Eastern Conference second-round playoff series. The victory gave New York a 2-1 lead over the Capitals in the best-of-seven series, and the teams will have two days to rest before game four Saturday. Brad Richards' pass from behind the net set up Gaborik, who wristed a shot through the pads of goalie Braden Holtby. Ryan Callahan had scored on a power-play in the second period for the Rangers, whose goalie Henrik Lundqvist stopped 45 shots. Holtby made 47 saves for Washington, whose John Carlson equalized in the second. In the Western Conference, a return home buoyed the Nashville Predators, who defeated Phoenix 2-0 to pull back to 2-1 in their series against the Coyotes. Pekka Rinne notched 32 saves in his first playoff shut-out. Nashville had lost the first two games of the series in Phoenix, but turned the tables with goals from David Legwand and Mike Fisher in a 66-second span in the first period. The Predators pulled off the victory despite the absence of forwards Alexander Radulov and Andrei Kostitsyn, who were both suspended by the team for the game for violating team rules. Flames sign Cervenka The Calgary Flames signed Czech center Roman Cervenka to a $3.775 million, one-year contract. The deal was announced by the team Wednesday. The 26-year-old from Prague spent the last two seasons with Avangard Omsk of the KHL of Russia and had 54 goals and 46 assists in 105 games. Cervenka led Omsk in scoring during the 2010-11 season with 31 goals and 30 assists in 51 games playing alongside countryman Jaromir Jagr. The 5-foot-11, 201-pound forward also played in the KHL all-star game that season.
