Clayton Kershaw learned another lesson in his maturation on the mound: Don't give Carlos Gonzalez anything juicy to hit. The Colorado slugger hit two homers off the NL Cy Young winner and backup catcher Wilin Rosario added another as the Rockies held off the Dodgers for an 8-5 win Wednesday. But those weren't even the biggest blows of the game. No, that would belong to pinch hitter Jason Giambi, who launched a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth off reliever Scott Elbert to help the Rockies take two of three from the NL-leading Dodgers. Gonzalez hit a solo shot in the fourth on a fastball from Kershaw and then lined an 85 mph slider just over the right-field fence in the eighth for a two-run homer. Rosario also hit a solo shot off Kershaw, who surrendered three homers in a game for the first time in his career. Braves 15, Phillies 13: Chipper Jones hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning and the Atlanta Braves overcame Carlos Ruiz's seven RBIs to outlast the Philadelphia Phillies 15-13. The seesaw game saw the Braves rally from a 6-0 deficit against Roy Halladay, then come back from four runs down in the eighth. Dan Uggla led off the Atlanta 11th with a single. Jones just missed a homer on a ball that landed barely foul to right, then connected against Brian Sanches (0-1). Jones' homer ended the Braves' eight-game losing streak to the Phillies. Brian McCann hit a grand slam for Atlanta. Houston 8, Mets 1: For the second time this season, Chris Schwinden allowed runs early and often, and most of the damage was delivered by one Houston Astros player. Chris Johnson homered twice off Schwinden and later added two more hits to drive in a career-high six runs and lead the Astros to an 8-1 that completed a three-game sweep of New York Mets. It was the third consecutive start dating to last season where Schwinden (0-1) allowed five earned runs in five innings or less. Padres 5, Brewers 0: Jeff Suppan pitched five solid innings to win his first game since 2010, leading the San Diego Padres to a 5-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Cubs 3, Reds 1: Bryan LaHair and Ian Stewart hit solo homers – a major outburst for the power-challenged Chicago Cubs – and Jeff Samardzija pitched into the eighth inning for a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Nationals 5, Diamondbacks 4: Bryce Harper made a tumbling barehanded catch in centerfield and then led off the ninth inning with a double to set the stage for Ian Desmond's two-out game-ending home run that gave the Washington Nationals a 5-4 victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. Cardinals 12, Pirates 3: Carlos Beltran drove in a career-best seven runs with a pair of three-run home runs and RBI single in the first three innings, leading the way as the St. Louis Cardinals punished A.J. Burnett and the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-3. In another game, Miami Marlins beat San Francisco Giants 3-2.
