Sudanese expatriate recounts details of horrific rape and murder caseRIYADH – Sulaiman Abdul Malik, a Sudanese expatriate and resident of Riyadh for more than 15 years, lost his wife in a tragedy that has been the talk of the city for months. The tragedy was compounded by the fact that Abdul Malik's nephew – Zain Al-Abidin – perpetrated the heinous crime. Moreover, Abdul Malik had been supporting the murderer financially ever since his arrival in the Kingdom. The tragic story took place when the assailant broke into his house in Al-Nassim District. He sneaked into the bedroom where his uncle's wife was sleeping and strangled her to death. He then assaulted her sexually and made off with SR165,000 in cash and jewelry. His brother acted as watchman at the gate of the property whilst the evil deeds were committed. Speaking to Al-Riyadh Arabic daily Abdul Malik said he has deserted his relatives and close friends thinking that this would help him to forget his tragic loss. Instead his loneliness has filled him with even more pain. The broken-hearted husband said in a weak voice, “Do you know that the man who killed my wife is the same nephew whom I welcomed in my house. The moment he arrived in the Kingdom, I bought him a car to help him earn a living. He used to visit me from time to time. I never thought in my wildest nightmares that his brother, who is also my nephew, would also take part in this crime.” A few days before the crime, his nephew and grandfather visited his house. He suspects that it was then that the nephew learned that there was SR165,000 in the bedroom. He recounted the evening of the murder. “At 8 P.M. I returned home from the airport to find the door of the flat broken. Upon entering the house, I found there was a gas leak. When I saw my wife lying in her bed, it never occurred to me that she might be dead. I collapsed when I found her motionless. I then called the police immediately. “The police took me into custody until my relatives testified that I had gone to the airport that evening. After a short time, the police told me that they had found that the perpetrator was my nephew. I didn't believe it at first. But then they showed me the stolen jewels and money, and I saw my nephew's confession.” He said it would take him a long time to get over this ordeal. The court sentenced the murderer to death and his accomplice to 10 years in prison.
