Westwood retains lead at Indonesian Masters
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 21 - 04 - 2012

World No. 3 Lee Westwood battled heat and humidity before shooting a blemish-free second round four-under-par 68 in the Indonesian Masters Friday.
The overnight leader birdied the 18th hole to snap a string of eight pars and picked up three more shots for a two-day total of 11-under 133 before play was temporarily suspended because of lightning at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club.
“It was very hot and humid early on and I suffered with that a little bit,” said Briton Westwood. “It is just one of those things where it can be so hot that you can't replenish the fluids. That's Asia for you. I'm going to have to fluid up this afternoon,” added the Englishman who finished third at the Masters earlier this month.
Australian Kieran Pratt was five shots adrift, returning a sparkling 65 after a poor opening round of 73.
“It is only two rounds in so I need to keep going through the weekend. Obviously, Lee is a world class player and he is not going to back up but we are going to go out there and chase him,” said the 23-year-old, in his second year on the Asian Tour.
Every breaks course record
Matt Every set a new course record with a flawless round of 63 to grab a three shot lead after the first round of the Texas Open in San Antonio Thursday.
Every's nine-under par bogey free round bettered by a stroke the 64 shot at the TPC course by Ryan Palmer and Scott Piercy in 2010.
Hunter Haas was also bogey-free as he shot a six-under 66 crowned perfectly with an eagle on the par-five final hole where he blasted his approach shot to just five feet from the pin.
Ben Curtis was another player to get through the opening round without a bogey as he made a five-under 67.
The best performing international player was Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson who shot 68 for a share of a five-way tie for fourth.
Miyazato shares lead
In Hawaii, Japan's Ai Miyazato shot a bogey-free 65 to grab a share of the lead at the LPGA's LOTTE Championship Thursday while local favorite Michelle Wie failed to make the cut.
Miyazato needed just 25 putts in Thursday's second round to reach an eight-under 136 total and is tied atop the leaderboard with Spain's Azahara Munoz, who shot an eight-under 64.
Wie shot 76 to go with an six-over 78 in the opening round. Wie had a quadruple-bogey nine on the par-five first — her 10th hole of the round.
Munoz holed out from 102 yards for eagle on the par-four sixth hole. She also rolled in eight birdies, including four on the final five holes.
Taiwanese star Yani Tseng fired an even-par 72 to drop into a tie for 12th at three under. Tseng has won three of the first half dozen tournaments this season.
