A speeding motorist driving his white GMC on the Madina-Tabuk highway attacked and destroyed a Saher installation recently. According to eyewitnesses, the driver stopped and reversed when he was flashed by Saher. He took out his gun, fired four times at the Saher box, and fled the scene. This is not the first time that Saher has been attacked since it was introduced in Madina or in the country as a whole. When caught, angry drivers often smash the windows of Saher cars or, at a minimum, verbally abuse the Saher employee. In Buraidah late last year, a Saher employee sustained minor injuries when a resident threw metal objects at him. In another incident, a Saher staff member was burned to death when his car was set on fire in Al-Quwayiyah District in Riyadh. The incident shocked the country and created a furor in the local press. The reason for the attack was unknown. In March 2011, a thief stole Saher equipment from a vehicle on Prince Miteb (Arbaeen) Street in Jeddah. The theft took place when the Saher employee went to the mosque for prayers. The equipment was estimated to be worth SR500,000. However, Saher managed to reduce traffic accidents by 35 percent in Jeddah in 2011, according to Brig. Muhammad Al-Qahtani, General Director of Jeddah's Traffic Department.
