A group of female students from Dar Al-Hekma College here will stage a drama titled “Sabahaki Sama” Wednesday. This will be the students' second attempt to use theater as a medium to convey a message to the society and world around them. The drama, which is in a narrative form, aims to change the mindset of society regarding theatre, in addition to highlighting the significance of theatrical work as a means to spread awareness and impact society. The students also wish to tap into the talent of young women. The drama is targeted at youth between the ages of 16 and 35. The group behind the drama has the backing of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY). The narration is replete with sweet scenes. The students acting in the drama are excited because of the tremendous response from various segments of Saudi society. The students also see the performance as a professional step into the world of theatre. The performance, moreover, is the outcome of their hard work. The students have reached a professional level in everything related to the performance, such as stage management, direction, acting, voice and lighting. The drama sends a strong signal to society about the role that theatre can play in spreading awareness as well as in impacting society, said the students. It also helps to discover talented young female artists, promotes them besides giving them an opportunity to learn about professional drama. Moreover, it gives them plenty of opportunities in developing their leadership, administration, interaction, research and negotiation skills. In a nutshell, ‘Sabahaki Sama' is a theatrical work representing a miniature of the society in which we live. Through the drama, actors wish to send a strong message that “every one of us has a thought of his or her own, a way of moving and a dream that he or she strives to realize.” The drama also illustrates that a group of women with distinctive features can agree on a single point. Each one of them has a different track which they negotiate to realize their goals. ‘Sabahaki Sama' is also a reflection of issues in our complex society whose members see theatre not only as something that can be used to present their reality but also as a means to lay the first brick to build a new world of artistic performance. __
