A father here has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for killing his 10-year-old daughter almost 16 years ago. The Madina General Court judge sentenced the father, 55, for killing Hanan, burying her in a remote area in Madina and filing a false missing person report to police. The father claimed that his daughter went missing while she was with him at the Grand Mosque in Makkah for Umrah. The case was highlight by an Arabic newspaper on April 28, 2010. After Hanan's mother got a divorce, the father took Hanan with him and disappeared. However, a lady informed the mother that Hanan was being tortured by her stepmother. When the mother went to see her daughter, she was told that Hanan went missing in the Grand Mosque and then never turned up. The mother believed the story and accepted her fate. However, things turned around when Hanan's stepmother, an Asian, filed a complaint against her husband saying he physically abuses her and her daughters. Investigations revealed that the man would tie Hanan's hands and beat her severely till she would faint, until one day when she passed away. The father put her body in the car's trunk and buried her in a remote place. He returned and immediately took his family to Makkah for Umrah. He then lodged a false complaint with the police that his daughter Hanan went missing in the Grand Mosque.
