The Ministry of Labor has requested the Emir of Makkah to shut down all lingerie shops that have not complied with the royal decree of employing saleswomen, despite being given a deadline. According to a report published in a local Arabic newspaper, Adel Fakieh, Labor Minister, sent a letter to Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, listing the names of the shops that have not complied with the rules. The letter also called for directing passport departments, labor offices, mayoralties and municipalities of Makkah region to impose fines on salesmen working in these shops. The Labor Ministry has sought the Emir's help because it wants to ensure all shops abide by the decision. Strict enforcement of the law will help create job opportunities for a large number of Saudi women, the report said.
