Australia made a steady start to its pursuit of a victory target of 192, reaching 61-1 at tea on the fifth and final day of the opening cricket Test against the West Indies at Kensingon Oval. Ed Cowan laid the anchor with an unbeaten 11 off 61 balls. Fellow left-hander David Warner contributed 22, while Shane Watson was unbeaten on 23. West Indies skipper Darren Sammy collected 1-10. Earlier, the West Indies was bowled out for 148 after resuming on 71-5. Darren Bravo's 32 was the top score while Kemar Roach provided some resistance in making 25. Ben Hilfenhaus, who had started the West Indies' slide Tuesday, ended with 4-27 while fellow pacer Ryan Harris took 3-31. Australia, with a minimum of 63 overs to get the runs, was stalled by a heavy rain shower that delayed the restart after lunch. The visitors enjoyed some luck as they attempted to draw first blood in the three-match series. Warner had two inside edged boundaries just past the stumps off the luckless Roach as the opening pair added 31. Sammy eventually removed Warner to a wicketkeeper's catch, a thin edge neatly pouched by Carlton Baugh. Roach had two very close lbw appeals against Watson turned down, both by umpire Tony Hill and the Decision Review System, but the West Indies bowlers kept Australia becalmed for most of the session. Watson also survived a gully catch to Sammy off Roach when 5.
