ahead run in the ninth inning and the Boston Red Sox rallied to beat the Blue Jays 4-2 Monday, spoiling Toronto's home opener and avoiding the first back-to-back 0-4 starts in team history. Dustin Pedroia homered and scored the tying run as the Red Sox handed new Blue Jays closer Sergio Santos his second blown save in three appearances. Handed a 2-1 lead to start the ninth, Santos (0-1) surrendered a leadoff double to Pedroia, who advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Adrian Gonzalez. Kevin Youkilis struck out before David Ortiz and Cody Ross drew consecutive walks. After a visit to the mound by pitching coach Bruce Walton, Sweeney hit an RBI single through the right side. Darnell McDonald, pinch-running for Ortiz, slid home safely when Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia couldn't handle the throw from Jose Bautista, a miscue that also allowed both runners to advance. Ross scored soon after when Santos uncorked a wild pitch that bounced into Boston's dugout along the first base line. Making his first home appearance since being acquired in a December trade with the White Sox, Santos was booed off the mound by the crowd of 48,473 when manager John Farrell came out to replace him with Luis Perez, who ended the inning by getting Mike Aviles to ground into a fielder's choice. LA Angels 5, Minnesota 1: C.J. Wilson tossed seven innings of one-run ball in his debut with the Angels, and LA defeated Minnesota, 5-1, in the first game of a three-game series at Target Field Monday. Wilson (1-0) inked a five-year, $77.5 million deal with LA in the offseason after going 16-7 with a 2.94 earned run average in 34 starts with the rival Texas Rangers last year. The lefty hurler allowed just three hits while striking out five and walking four. Chris Iannetta belted a two-run double in the seventh, while Torii Hunter, who the Twins drafted 20th overall in the 1993 MLB draft, knocked in a run and added two hits against his former club. Bobby Abreu and Erick Aybar added an RBI apiece as the Halos bounced back after dropping two of three to the Royals to start the season. NY Yankees 6, Baltimore 2: Derek Jeter was 4-for-4, Ivan Nova struck out seven batters in seven innings and the New York Yankees topped the Baltimore Orioles for their first win of the season. The Yankees, swept in a three-game series at Tampa Bay to begin the season, avoided their first 0-4 start since 1973 despite giving up 13 hits in the opener of this three-game set. In other games it was: Chicago White Sox 4, Cleveland 2; Texas 11, Seattle 5; and Oakland 1, Kansas City 0.
