being and support of women was launched last week here. The Pakistan Women Welfare Society was initiated by Jeddah-based businesswoman Shabnam Zahid under the patronage of Fouzia Salik Khan, the wife of Pakistan Consul General Abdul Salik Khan. “My business is related to women's beauty and care. So many women share their issues with me when they come for services, so I started the social work to help solve their problems,” said Shabnam Zahid, owner of the Royal Beauty parlor. “Their problems are based on daily personal issues like marriage, school fees, divorce, health and so on. I decided to launch a proper society with the aid of other kind women of the community who are also my clients,” Zahid said. She added, “Beauty is not achieved by external grooming only but the mind and heart should be fresh and pure. I have been trying to solve their issues to keep their minds in peace because I find it my social responsibility as a human being.” Khan said that women in the community need to know they are neither alone nor too far away from home. “If they have any problems, we are here to help them in their sacrifice for the development of the nation and country,” she said. The society's other members are educationalist Taj Bano and social workers Dr. Arfana Riyaz and Dr. Rakhshanda Puri. They aim to work toward supporting needy women. Guest of honor Salma Khan, principal of the Pakistan International School Jeddah, acknowledged the women's initiative. “Every kind-hearted person should come forward to support the needy people of the community,” she said.
