Kraigg Brathwaite and Kirk Edwards both hit half-centuries as West Indies reached 158-2 at tea against Australia on the opening day of the first cricket Test at Kensington Oval Saturday. Brathwaite went to the break on 53 not out while Edwards compiled an enterprising 61. The pair of Barbadians, in front of their home crowd, added 104 for the second wicket either side of lunch. Fast bowler Ryan Harris took 1-25 while part-time leg-spinner David Warner claimed 1-23. Brathwaite struck four fours off 179 balls and benefited from two dropped chances, at 10 and 44. Peter Siddle first floored a hard return chance before Ricky Ponting grassed an equally difficult chance at second slip off Shane Watson. Edwards beat Brathwaite to his 50, getting there with his eighth four, off 97 balls. Edwards also had some luck, Watson letting one slip out of his grasp at gully off Siddle when the batsman was 56. Edwards eventually fell to Warner's leg-spin, smacking a low return chance off the back foot at 142-2.
