Defending champion Monterrey booked a return trip to the final of the CONCACAF Champions League Wednesday with a 1-1 draw against fellow Mexican club Pumas. Angel Reyna scored in the 35th minute for Monterrey, who advanced with a 4-1 aggregate victory after a 3-0 first-leg win. Antonio Garcia scored in the 71st minute for Pumas. Monterrey will host Mexican Clausura leader Santos in the first leg of the final on April 17, with the return leg slated for April 24. Santos thrashed Major League Soccer's Toronto FC 6-2 in Torreon to advance 7-3 on aggregate. Herculez Gomez scored twice in the first half and Juan Pablo Rodriguez had a brace of second-half penalties for Santos as the tournament was assured a Mexican champion. Joao Plata twice gave Toronto the lead in the first half but Gomez equalized both times. Santos pulled ahead with Rodriguez's penalties before Oribe Peralta and Daniel Luduena completed the scoring. Muamba takes his first steps Fabrice Muamba, the Bolton Wanderers midfielder who suffered a cardiac arrest while playing at Tottenham Hotspur last month, has begun to walk again, his club manager Owen Coyle said Thursday. Coyle told reporters that Muamba, who will be 24 Friday, was out of bed and walking down a corridor in the intensive care unit of a London hospital, where he has remained since he collapsed on March 17. “He's taking steps, talking and has that big smile we love to see. He is progressing the right way,” said Coyle, when asked for an update on the player's condition. The former England Under-21 international was described as ‘technically dead' for 78 minutes after his collapse during the FA Cup quarter-final tie at White Hart Lane. He was given 15 defibrillator shocks before he reached hospital. His family posted a first public picture of him on Twitter from his hospital room last week and he has received thousands of get-well messages from players, officials and supporters. Coyle added: “We have to stress that he still has a long way to go, but the improvement has been remarkable and long may that continue.”
